Mehdi Eshaghian graduated with B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. In September 2018, he joined the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) for pursing his M.Sc. at McMaster University in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ali Emadi. His research interests include autonomous vehicles, robotics, and control systems in general.
Mehdi has had a strong passion for robotics and autonomous systems since his young age in high school. This desire lead him to follow his interest in the general fields of STEM; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. During the high school, the enthusiasm he showed toward learning beyond the scope of mathematics and physics ordinary books in school, drew his attention to National Mathematics and Informatics Olympiads. Enhancing his analytical skills throughout three years of studying for Olympiads also helped him qualified through nationwide university entrance exam to enroll in Mechanical Engineering program at Sharif University of Technology, the most prestigious technical university in Iran.
To pursue his desire in robotics, Mehdi joined the Center of Excellence in Design, Robotics, and Automation (CEDRA) during his undergraduate studies. In his last year of study, he received the opportunity to be a member of Iran’s team in 2017 Robocon contest (Asia-pacific Robot Contest) held in Tokyo. During the preparation for this competition, Mehdi managed to work in day and night in the lab alongside his teammates to design and build an accurate disk throwing robot for the purpose of the competition. This robotic contest was one of the most incredible experiences in his life, a combination of passionate engineering teamwork and excitement aspects of international competition.
Since September 2018, Mehdi has started his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University. He has joined Dr. Emadi’s group at McMaster Automotive Resource Centre to follow his desire in Autonomous Vehicles and wants to be a part of the next paradigm shift in the Automotive Industry.
