Short Biography

Phillip Kollmeyer (IEEE S’04-M’16) received the B.S.(2006), M.S.(2011), and Ph.D.(2015) degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a focus in the area of electric machines, power electronics, controls, and energy storage.

As a graduate student, Phil led the development of a new industry sponsored energy storage test facility at the Wisconsin Energy Institute and received funding to build an electric Ford F150 research vehicle. His researched focused on the design, modeling, fabrication, and on the road evaluation of electric vehicle drivetrains, with projects also focusing on analysis of various gearing strategies and hybrid energy storage. Additionally, he assisted in teaching an introductory electromechanical engineering course and worked to greatly improve the university’s Grainger Electric Machines Teaching Lab, developing a new continuing education short course lab in the process. As a postdoctoral fellow at McMaster, he is focused on building up the research group’s energy storage testing capabilities and collaborating with other researchers on energy storage, vehicle modeling, and drivetrain design related projects.
